The ABC No Rio Blackroom Folio Project
ABC No Rio is a collectively-run center for art and activism. We are known internationally as a venue for
oppositional culture. ABC No Rio was founded in 1980 by artists committed to political and social
engagement and we retain these values to the present. We seek to facilitate cross-pollination between

We are a diverse collective, informed and inspired by a variety of movements and figures in the long
struggle for social justice. From the American labor movement, to the fight for civil rights, from European
Social Democracy to women's liberation, the Young Democratic Socialists takes lessons and hope from the
wide history of our progressive project. But YDS is not a theoretical debating society. We are proud of our
heritage as socialists, but don't get bogged down in endless arguments about how many Karl Marx books
can fit on the head of a pin. We are the nation's largest socialist student and youth organization, but unlike
many socialist groups, we don't think we are the end-all-be-all of progressive politics in America. We work
in coalitions, as a principled ally of a variety of struggles. We work to be a socialist voice within the left, but
don't think that we should tell other movements that we have all the answers. We want to see a
progressive, democratic majority in the US, and work in good faith to build that majority. Progressive
Democrats, queer activists, people of color, Greens, labor activists, feminists, we have come together
because we don't think there is currently room in US politics for our vision of a society based on solidarity,
instead of greed. We are going to make that room.

The Brecht Forum
The BRECHT FORUM is a place for people who are working for social justice, equality and a new culture
that puts human needs first. Through its programs and events, the Brecht Forum brings people together
across social and cultural boundaries and artistic and academic disciplines to promote critical analysis,
creative thinking, collaboartive projects and networking in an independent community-level environment.
Throughout the year, the Brecht Forum offers a wide-ranging program of classes, public lectures and
seminars, art exhibitions, performances, popular education workshops, and language classes. These
activities are developed in collaboration with the many social movements and the diverse communities of
this most cosmopolitan of cities, and our programs bring together leading intellectuals, activists and artists
from New York, across the U.S., and internationally.

is a democracy and justice action group. We work with communities seeking to build a fair and just multi-
racial democracy in America. Using law, public policy and strategic communications, Advancement Project
acts in partnership with local communities to advance universal opportunity, equity and access for those
left behind in America. From our inception, we have sought to link communities with external resources
such as other local groups working on allied issues and causes, lawyers, journalists, policy analysts, data
and relevant research, technical and communications support. Our relationships are at the core of our
work. They define and shape our ability to activate successful reform efforts in traditionally difficult arenas
with strong coalitions of interested parties.

The Center for Digital Democracy is committed to preserving the openness and diversity of the Internet in
the broadband era, and to realizing the full potential of digital communications through the development
and encouragement of noncommercial, public interest programming. To these ends, CDD has four broad
goals:
-To enhance public understanding of the changing dimensions of the US digital media system, by
explaining the communications options and the public-interest resources that citizens should have at their
disposal.
-To foster the development of a new generation of activists to work on digital media policy issues, and to
make the media industry more accountable to the public.
-To promote the development of a new online "commons," a consolidated and more visible space in which
the public will have access to a variety of noncommercial sources of information and service.
-To stimulate nonprofit organizations (especially progressive, public-interest groups) to become active
producers of next-generation broadband media content.

National Coalition of 100 Black Women
Founded in 1981, NCBW, a nonprofit 501(c) (4) organization, has approximately 7,500 members in 62
chapters in 25 states and the District of Columbia, with organizing groups in St. Thomas (West Indies);
London, England; York (PA); Boston (MA); and Omaha (NE). • The NCBW mission is the development of
socially conscious female leaders who are committed to furthering equity and empowerment for women of
color in the society-at-large, improving the environment of their neighborhoods, rebuilding their
communities and enhancing the quality of public and private resources for the growth and development of
disadvantaged youths. NCBW is dedicated to community service, the creation of wealth for social change,
the enhancement of career opportunities for women of color through networking and strategically
designed programs and the empowerment of women of color to meet their diverse needs.
