elections fair—for getting back our democracy.

bias, economic injustice, ageism, and the spread of HIV, STIs, STDs, and other mental and physical
health crises — that make daily survival a terrifying challenge for many TLGBTSQQ youth. FIERCE

Guardian Angels
The story is, by now, familiar. The McDonald's night manager in a crime-ridden area of the Bronx, who,
sickened and saddened by his city's deterioration, took matters into his own hands. He formed a
voluntary, weapon-free patrol of thirteen to take the subways, the streets and the neighborhood back
from crime. The accolades that followed and even the detractors decrying his initiative and success
proved the value of the sometimes militant, most time comforting, symbolism of the red beret.

MADRE
was born out of a belief that together we can make a difference. In 1983 a group of women activists,
poets, teachers, artists and health professionals traveled to Nicaragua to witness the impact of the
US sponsored contra war. What they saw horrified and angered them. They met with women who
showed them day care centers, schools and clinics that had been bombed by contras supported by
the USm government. These women returned to the US with a mandate from the women of Nicaragua:
to bring the stories of Nicaraguan women and children to the attention of the US public and mobilize
people to demand a change in US
government policy.

MoveOn

money and big media, most citizens are left out. When it becomes clear that our "representatives"
don't represent the public, the foundations of democracy are in peril. MoveOn is a catalyst for a new
kind of grassroots involvement, supporting busy but concerned citizens in finding their political
voice. Our international network of more than 2,000,000 online activists is one of the most effective
and responsive outlets for democratic participation available today.

Montpelier Downtown Workers Union
In Vermont, where 79 percent of businesses employ nine or less people, building a strong union
movement could be an uphill battle. Many workers are employed in small service sector operations
highly dependent on tourist dollars, where organizing has been a seemingly impossible task.
Additionally, most of these workplaces pay low wages and employ people on an ‘at will’ basis, where
workers can be fired at anytime for any reason. These economic ‘on the job’ realities
have long posed difficult questions for workers interested in building a movement that gives them a
voice on the job and strives to organize broad based working class power in the Green Mountains.
Enter the Montpelier Downtown Workers Union.

our campuses, out in the streets, and at the ballot box. NYSPC believes that the struggle for social

New America Foundation
Powerful forces - from rapid technological change to massive demographic shifts, from economic
globalization to terrorism - are remaking America. Now, more than ever, our nation needs a robust
public debate, one that does justice to the complex challenges and opportunities of this unfolding
era. Yet there remains a dearth of new thinking on both sides of the political divide, as well as a lack
of investment in developing the creative young minds most capable of crafting new public policy
solutions.

No One is Illegal
We are part of a loose network of groups around the world using the kein ist mensch illegal/no one is
illegal idea which began in 1997 at Documenta X. We want to find answers to questions like: why are
there borders? Do we need nations? Is a global community possible? How can we remove the
barriers between us? Capital derives its and power from the theft and plundering of the land and the
exploitation of labour. Once this was organised by the colonial powers of Europe, now they are joined
by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and Washington with their structural
adjustment programs and free trade treaties. This means massive impoverishment of the global
South, displacing millions of people from their homes and making the survival of billions harder and
harder. Some countries are economically devastated, in others there is war and genocide. As the
world is homogenised, the laws we live by are increasingly the values of the market place. And while
there are few borders for trade and the movement of capital, restrictions on the movement of people
are being tightened.

No One is Illegal

Palestinian Media Watch
PMW was established in 1996 to gain an understanding of Palestinian society through the monitoring
of the Palestinian Arabic language media and schoolbooks. PMW analyzes Palestinian Authority [PA]
culture and society from numerous perspectives, including studies on summer camps, poetry,
schoolbooks, religious ideology, crossword puzzles, and many more. PMW has been playing the
critical role of documenting the contradictions between the image the Palestinians present to the
world in English and the messages to their own people in Arabic. The world’s view of the Palestinian
Authority, to a significant degree, is the result of PMW research.

Protest.Net
is a collective of activists who are working together to create our own media. By publishing a public
record of our political activities on the web we are taking a stand against the established media. We
are standing up and showing that serious activism is alive and well at the dawn of the 21st century.
Everyday from Kansas to India activists are meeting, organizing, and protesting to demand a better
world for all. When the corporate media takes note of our activities it is only to spit upon our
struggle. We are accused of being misinformed bleading heart hooligans with nothing better to do
than march up and down blocking traffic. Yet the rich get richer, and we are told to be complacent, to
wait for our due. They say the environment isn't being destroyed, it's ok to kill millions of Iraqi's with
vindictive sanctions, that the billions living in slums just need to work harder, that global domination
by a corporate elite is the only way. Activists around the world are fighting for a better world. We can't
rely on the media establishment to cover our movements. We will rise up and seize the means
of communication!
